“An event of this nature
definitely helps to
engage people who
otherwise would not
visit the monument, or
would visit art exhibitions.
The cross-over can
produce interesting results.”
Pam Braddock
English Heritage

Space Interrupted is a project made up of artists, architects, film makers and curators working together to highlight, disrupt and re-frame industrial and vernacular buildings. The project also engages with a range of partners to get people moving around their local area by exploring and testing range of exciting cultural events and activities.

Six artists inspired by fortifications, history and archives creating  installations and projections to  disrupt meaning and function.  The artists created interventions that interrupted and overlapped this heritage building,  layering and fragmenting imagery, revealing and concealing the function of the building

Curator Clare Sheppeard worked with selected artists to create an ambitious site-specific project at Fort Brockhurst, generously supported by Arts Council England and partners English Heritage, Heritage Open Days, Blue Monkey Network and Aspex.
